Hurricane Maria’s catastrophic impact on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have set off a humanitarian crisis for over 3.4 million U.S. citizens who reside on the islands. The power grid, telecommunications and infrastructure are severely damaged and living conditions are truly dire. In Puerto Rico, over 95% of the island is still without electricity and over 60% of the population has no running water. It could take weeks before power is fully restored on the island. Over 1 million are without running water and 3 million without electricity. The New Orleans Chapter of the FBA passed Resolution Supporting Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts for the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
